PM Modi Says Poverty Reduction and Economic Growth Reflect NDA Government’s Development Path

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s policies and governance approach have contributed significantly to India’s development over the past 12 years, citing the upliftment of more than 25 crore people from poverty as a key achievement.

Addressing the NDA Conclave at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Modi said the country’s aspirations and confidence have grown substantially since 2014. He remarked that the trust reposed in the NDA by the people has enabled the government to pursue long-term reforms and development initiatives across multiple sectors.

‘Development Driven by Right Intent and Policy Direction’

The Prime Minister said the reduction in poverty levels over the past decade reflects the effectiveness of the government’s policy framework and implementation strategy. According to him, the achievements of the past 12 years demonstrate that governance driven by clear objectives and public welfare can deliver tangible results.

Modi stated that India’s citizens have increasingly recognized the value of political stability and decisive governance. He noted that prolonged periods of political uncertainty before 2014 had often slowed progress, whereas stable leadership has allowed for sustained policy execution and long-term planning.

Vision of a Developed India

Highlighting the government’s long-term goals, Modi said the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” or developed India has evolved into a collective national aspiration rather than being limited to any single government or political party.

He urged citizens and public representatives alike to contribute towards achieving the goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047. The Prime Minister emphasized that economic and structural reforms undertaken by the government were driven by conviction and national priorities rather than political considerations.

Strong Economic Performance

Referring to India’s economic progress, Modi said the country has continued to register robust growth despite global economic challenges.

He noted that India recorded a growth rate of 7.7 percent during the 2025–26 financial year, while growth in the final quarter ending March 31 stood at 7.8 percent. According to the Prime Minister, India has moved beyond the period when it was grouped among the so-called “Fragile Five” economies and is now counted among the world’s fastest-growing major economies.

Key Reforms and Policy Decisions

Modi highlighted several major decisions taken by the NDA government, saying the administration has consistently pursued measures it considers to be in the national interest.

Among the initiatives he mentioned were women’s reservation legislation, the law against triple talaq, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the One Rank One Pension scheme for armed forces veterans.

He said the government would continue to pursue reforms and policy decisions aimed at strengthening governance and accelerating development.

Focus on Middle Class and Emerging Aspirations

The Prime Minister observed that India’s growing middle class and neo-middle class are playing a central role in driving the country’s economic aspirations.

He said government policies are increasingly focused on improving ease of living, enhancing quality of life, and creating new opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship, and social mobility. According to Modi, meeting the expectations of these emerging social groups is essential for sustaining India’s growth momentum.

Renewable Energy and Green Growth

Speaking on the energy sector, Modi reiterated India’s commitment to achieving its renewable energy goals. He called for accelerated efforts to meet the target of 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity and emphasized the need to expand investments in solar and nuclear power.

The Prime Minister also highlighted progress in green hydrogen and green ammonia technologies, stating that these sectors have the potential to position India as a major player in the global clean energy transition.
